Types of internet websites

Websites on the internet can be categorised into a basic set of types.
Content based websites
These are sites for which text and image content is the primary purpose of the site. These sites can be mostly static content, or user generated content.
Goods/services based websites
These are sites that are essentially e-commerce. This means a site for which you can buy goods/services. Typically this involves a site that includes a 'shopping basket icon'
Search websites
These are essentially large indexes and are used by people to sort out what type of website they are looking for.
Database or listings websites
These are websites that list things, often by the users of the site. It could be for selling of a product or service.
Social communication websites
These are sites that link together individuals for business or social purposes.
