Society and fashion

What is the role of society and fashion? The primary role of society in a fashion sense is that of the consumer and associated retailers. The society in the most general sense is about the kinds of cultural norms and behaviours. But for a diverse cultural places in the western world( NY, London, Paris) it is important to consider sub-cultures and specific markets.

From a purely retail business perspective it is important to consider particular demographics such as age brackets ( for example teens vs business ). It is about what current fashions are popular and hence able to sell. For example what celebrities are wearing on the red carpet would be highly relevant to a store that sells formal wear.

The enviroment and fashionfashion environment impact

One of the major issues with fashion and the environment is in relation to the raw materials that used to create textiles. For example there may be environmental impacts in places from growing cotton, the use of water for example. The production of chemicals for synthetic fabrics such as nylons etc.

There may be animal concerns also such as the treatment of animals such as cows for leather products, crocodiles . Even sheep for the production of wool can be a concern to some people. The use of other furs ( foxes, seals ) from animals is another consideration.
