Acne treatment uses natural virus on skin

25 April 2004

by Richard Conan-Davies

Researchers have reported on a new treatment for acne that relies on enhancing a naturally occuring bacteria virus that lives on the skin which can kill bacteria that cause acne

Professor Holland from the Leeds skin research centre believes that a gel containing a higher concentration of the bacteria fighting virus would be a possible approach to the problem of acne.

However money is needed to run a clinical trial to test the effectivness of this approach. Acne is likely to have a range of factors that contribute to various degrees and intensity of the condition.
